Each dial is finished by skilled artisans by hand, making each watch a piece that can also be described as a work of art. The movement, the heart of the watch, is made in Japan, and the watches are assembled in Japan. The three new models are inspired by Upper Rank Two Doma, Upper Rank Three Akaza, and Upper Rank Six Kaigaku. Kanazawa foil, known for its use in Kinkaku-ji, developed in Kanazawa thanks to the region’s climate, environment, and history suited to gold leaf production. Kanazawa is Japan’s leading gold leaf production area. Metal blocks are hammered and stretched to about 0.1 micrometers, or one ten-thousandth of a millimeter, then carefully colored one by one by skilled artisans. Because the process is done entirely by hand, each product has its own individuality. The Doma model features an index at 12 o’clock with a motif of the Upper Rank “Two” eye; a rotating disc that turns once per second with a design inspired by Doma’s headwear; hour and minute hands inspired by Doma’s fans; and a dial pattern inspired by his head markings, expressed in silver foil.
