In the basin of the Saru River, which originates in the Hidaka Mountains and flows into the Pacific Ocean, many Ainu people have lived since ancient times, carving out their history to the present day. This exhibition focuses on crafts collected from the Saru River basin, specifically those whose makers and users are clearly identified. By combining these with related photographs, documents, and the words of their descendants, we illuminate the lives of people who navigated rapid changes in the modern era and their connection to people living today.
