MW Inc. (Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo; Co-Founder & CEO: Shuzo Narita; “MW”) announced that it has been selected for the Physical AI Development Support Program by AWS Japan, provided by Amazon Web Services Japan G.K. (“AWS Japan”). With this selection, MW will move into full-scale development and implementation of physical AI for residential spaces. MW is a startup aiming to realize “Living Home,” a residence that perceives its environment, understands and judges situations, and acts autonomously through the fusion of architecture, AI, and robotics. Many homes currently called “smart homes” remain limited to remote control of home appliances via IoT, with all operations still premised on human input. They also face a structural issue in which apps are fragmented by manufacturer, making it impossible to centrally control the entire home. MW aims to create a truly autonomous living space in which the home itself perceives the environment through sensors and AI, makes context-aware decisions, and executes optimal actions on its own. The company will also build a system that centrally manages fragmented devices and services through an integrated application, seamlessly connecting every function in the home. Rather than extending conventional smart homes centered on remote appliance control or simple automation, MW seeks to evolve the home itself into an intelligent space. Although housing is one of the physical spaces where humans spend the most time, it has been among the slowest areas to be transformed by software and AI. Physical AI development has so far advanced mainly in industrial applications such as manufacturing and logistics, but demand for labor-saving and automation in living spaces is rapidly increasing amid declining birthrates, aging populations, and labor shortages. MW’s approach is to address these issues through “residential physical AI.” Residential physical AI refers to a technology system in which AI autonomously perceives and understands the enviro
