JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo (2-21-2 Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jakob Helgen as the new General Manager of JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo, effective June 28, 2026. Originally from Sweden, Helgen brings over 22 years of global hospitality leadership experience with Marriott International. Most recently, from 2019 to 2024, he served as Area Vice President overseeing Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar, driving operations in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian region. During his tenure, the number of Marriott International hotels in the region expanded from 50 to 80, with a significant contribution to business growth, notably doubling the number of hotels in Vietnam from 10 to 20. Prior to this, he served as Market Vice President for South China and played a crucial role in Marriott International's expansion into Macau and Taiwan as the Area Vice President responsible for Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Hainan Island. Helgen began his career with Marriott International in 2002 as the Director of Food and Beverage at Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon. He subsequently held key operational positions at JW Marriott Mumbai and JW Marriott Seoul, before being appointed Area Director of Operations for China at the Hong Kong regional office in 2007. Since then, he has held numerous leadership positions across the Asia Pacific region, driving regional operations and business expansion. Before joining Marriott International, he gained experience in food and beverage departments at Relais & Châteaux properties and Michelin-starred restaurants in Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, and France. He studied Hotel Management in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and earned an Executive MBA from the School of Economics, Business and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2022.
