Kawade Shobo Shinsha Co., Ltd. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo / President: Yusuru Onodera) will launch a new cross-genre original anthology series titled "Books for Midnight" beginning October 2026. The first release will consist of three volumes centered on the themes "cat," "curry," and "voice." "Books for Midnight"—One Book, Diverse Genres to Enjoy While editing "spin/spin," which began in September 2022 as a limited 16-issue series, the editorial team was reminded anew of the richness and possibilities of literary expression across genres. Inspired by a desire to share this boundless appeal with readers, the "spin/spin" editorial team is launching the cross-genre original anthology series "Books for Midnight." Each volume of the "Books for Midnight" series will feature contributions from around 20 writers. For a single theme, each book will include a wide range of works across genres such as fiction, poetry, tanka, haiku, senryu, diary entries, essays, and illustrations. Book design will be handled by Sasaki Akira, designer of "spin/spin." Interior illustrations will be provided by Shiohara Izumi, who has supported "spin/spin" for four years. Cover artwork will be specially commissioned from various illustrators and painters according to each theme. Please look forward to these exclusive creations. As with "spin/spin," the materials used for this series are developed in collaboration with TAKAO Co., Ltd., a specialist paper trading company. We aim to deliver not only compelling content but also the tactile joy of holding a physical book.
