Setouchi University (President: Yasuyuki Kubo) will offer a science workshop for elementary school 5th and 6th graders and junior high school students in grades 1–3. This hands-on program is part of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science's (JSPS) grant-funded initiative "Kira-kira☆Tokimeki Science," designed to share university research outcomes with children, spark scientific curiosity, and nurture emotional richness and intellectual creativity. Participation is free of charge. 【Key Points】 ● Introduce children to cutting-edge research through observation, explanation, and hands-on experience to convey the joy of science ● Create artificial capillaries as thin as 1/20th the width of a human hair using nanotechnology ● Selected project of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science's "Kira-kira☆Tokimeki Science" program 左 Experimenting in a full-scale university laboratory 右 Experiencing nanotechnology powered by sunlight = both images from last year's event Nanotechnology enables the creation of extremely small structures with precision. "Nano" is a unit of measurement, and one nanometer equals one-millionth of a millimeter. In this workshop, participants will use a tiny mechanical system called a "nano-micro machine" to fabricate artificial capillaries just 1/20th the thickness of a human hair. Using microscopes to peer into the miniature world, participants will witness liquids flowing through these artificial capillaries and experience the wonders of the microscopic world. Workshop: "Capillaries as Thin as 1/20th of a Hair! Let's Create Artificial Capillaries Using Nanotechnology!" 1. Date and Time: August 6, 2026 (Thu) 10:30–16:00 2.
