June 29, 2026 JAL Group is actively promoting inbound and outbound travel between Japan and overseas countries as part of its initiative to expand "connections through mobility," not only within Japan but also internationally. While inbound tourist numbers have recently reached record highs, the number of Japanese traveling abroad has yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels. Additionally, Japan's passport ownership rate remains low at 18.4% (*1), and there are growing concerns about younger generations becoming increasingly disengaged from overseas travel. To foster globally minded human resources with international perspectives, it is essential to encourage more Japanese citizens to travel abroad. In response to this situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to lower passport application fees effective July 1, 2026.
