Daiichi Kogyo Seiyaku Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kyoto City, Minami Ward; President and Representative Director: Naotaka Yamaji) and Rengo Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka City; President and Representative Director: Yosuke Kawamoto) will present research findings on high-performance bioplastics made from waste cellophane at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Society of Cellulose, to be held from July 9 (Thu) to 10 (Fri), 2026, at Fuchunomori Art Theater. In recent years, as efforts toward decarbonization and carbon neutrality accelerate, global interest in biomass-derived materials has been growing even further. In this research, we confirmed that unused resources generated during the cellophane manufacturing process can be reused as high-performance bioplastics by utilizing our low-CO2 emission polysaccharide esterification technology based on interfacial chemistry. This initiative contributes to both the high-value utilization of waste and the reduction of environmental impact. In addition, at our company exhibition booth, we will introduce the application of our cellulose nanofiber "REOCRYSTA" to the ceramics field, as well as cellulose materials (development products) such as cello-oligosaccharides, CNF magnetic particles, and thermoplastic pulp/flame-retardant pulp.
