New Taipei, May 17 (CNA) - Fubon Guardians' Japanese pitcher Shunsuke Suzuki secured a quality start win yesterday, but Head Coach Mitsutaka Goto reminded him that if he had a competitive mindset from the very first inning, he might not have given up any runs. He emphasized the need to focus on confronting the batter once on the mound. Suzuki pitched 6 innings against the TSG Hawks, allowing 8 hits, 3 walks, and 1 earned run while striking out 8, earning his third win of the season. Despite the quality start, Suzuki faced several jams. In a pre-game interview today, he admitted that he created most of the crises himself, either through too many balls or by giving up hits after two strikes. Coach Goto had critiqued his performance as neither great nor poor, feeling Suzuki was too focused on himself rather than the opponent. Suzuki acknowledged the coach's advice, stating that while he ultimately got strikeouts in clutch situations, adopting that confrontational mindset from the start could have resulted in a scoreless outing. He added that technical aspects should be worked on during practice, while on the mound, the focus must be on battling the hitter.
