Following a heavy thunderstorm warning for Hualien issued by the Central Weather Administration, a mudslide occurred on the upper slope at the 163-kilometer mark of the Suhua Highway (north portal of Chongde Tunnel). Consequently, the section between Heren and Chongde has been preemptively closed starting at 12:15 PM. The Highway Bureau's East District Maintenance Engineering Branch stated that due to high atmospheric instability caused by abundant moisture and strengthening northeast winds, the defensive closure applies from the 154.7km to 165.7km mark of Provincial Highway 9. Vehicles are allowed to exit but not enter. The reopening schedule will depend on ongoing weather and road conditions.
