In Kaohsiung's Chouza and Yuanchungkong wetlands, the protected pheasant-tailed jacanas, known as "water fairies," have molted into their striking golden and white breeding plumage for the summer. The species exhibits a rare polyandrous mating system. This successful restoration over 20 years highlights the wetlands' role as a vital ecological corridor and carbon sink, showcasing Kaohsiung's environmental sustainability efforts.
