Supported by Chen Ying-Chun's 8 points in the final quarter, Taiwan came from behind in overtime to defeat South Korea 82-80. Taiwan's final preliminary round match will be against China in South Korea on July 6. A win in that game would secure their advancement to the next round. In the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Taiwan is grouped with China, South Korea, and Japan. The format requires each country to play each other team twice, once at home and once away, with the top 3 teams advancing. Before tonight's game, Taiwan was at the bottom of the group with a record of 1 win and 3 losses, accumulating 5 points. With tonight's victory, their record improves to 2 wins and 3 losses, with 7 points. Having secured a head-to-head advantage over South Korea with two wins, their chances of advancing are now very strong. From the start of the game, Taiwan struggled, particularly with their three-point shooting, and was outplayed for the first three quarters, trailing by as many as 16 points at 49-65.
