Central News Agency (Central News Agency reporter Huang Kuo-fang, Chiayi City, July 3) A woman surnamed Wu, who operates a beauty studio in Chiayi City, is accused of importing unapproved beauty medical devices from China. Following a public complaint, the Chiayi City Investigation Station of the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau transferred the case for investigation. The Chiayi District Prosecutors Office has concluded its investigation and indicted the woman for violating the Medical Device Act, requesting a summary judgment. According to the investigation by the Taiwan Chiayi District Prosecutors Office, Ms. Wu attended the Guangzhou Beauty Equipment Exhibition in China in June 2024. She intended to order beauty equipment for comprehensive skin management. However, this equipment is classified as a medical device, and according to regulations, it requires an application for inspection and registration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare before import. Chiayi District Prosecutors Office stated that Ms. Wu, considering the high inspection fees, purchased six sets of comprehensive skin management beauty devices in China. She then entrusted a Chinese manufacturer to ship them to Taiwan in batches in June, August, and September 2024. The devices were placed in the beauty studio operated by Ms. Wu and used by unsuspecting customers. Chiayi District Prosecutors Office said that after a member of the public complained to the Chiayi City Department of Health, the department dispatched personnel to inspect the beauty studio and discovered the unapproved equipment. Subsequently, the Chiayi City Investigation Station took over the case for investigation. Considering the clear evidence and Ms. Wu's confession, Chiayi District Prosecutors Office has requested a summary judgment from the Taiwan Chiayi District Court. The seized equipment will be confiscated and destroyed by the local competent authority in accordance with regulations. (Editor: Li Ming-tsung) 0703115
