The time capsule is planned to be sealed for 250 years, not to be opened until 2276, the 500th anniversary of the founding of the United States. However, this is not the only gift left for future generations. Washington recently announced that it will also bury another time capsule scheduled to be opened on the 500th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
