Central News Agency (CNA reporter Chang Chi, Taitung County, July 3) A 78-year-old farmer surnamed Chen in Kanglo Village, Taitung City, was pinned under his pesticide sprayer truck around 7 a.m. today for unknown reasons. Police and firefighters responded to the scene and, with the help of nearby farmers, lifted the vehicle to rescue the elderly man, who was found without breathing or heartbeat and rushed to the hospital. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. The person who reported the incident stated that they passed by a sugar apple orchard around 7 a.m. and initially thought the elderly man was inspecting the vehicle from underneath. Five minutes later, when they passed again, the elderly man's posture had not changed, and he did not respond to calls, prompting them to immediately report for help. The Taitung County Fire Department rushed to the scene and found the man trapped under the vehicle. They gathered about 7 nearby farmers, and together they lifted the vehicle. When the elderly man was rescued, he had no breathing or heartbeat. After emergency personnel administered first aid, he was sent to Mackay Memorial Hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the accident is still under police investigation. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150703 Stand with the facts, and your every contribution is a force to protect press freedom.
