Central News (CNA Penghu, July 2nd) The 2026 Penghu Cup National Taekwondo Championships kicked off today with 266 taekwondo athletes from 14 counties and cities across the nation. Penghu Deputy Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing described the event as a national martial arts gathering, encouraging all participating athletes to uphold the spirit of taekwondo and showcase their training results. The Penghu Cup National Taekwondo Championships commenced today at the Penghu Multifunctional Comprehensive Gymnasium, jointly inaugurated by Deputy Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing, Deputy Speaker Lan Kai-yuan, and others. The referees are all national-level. Qin Yu-fang, who won a gold medal in the taekwondo demonstration event at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in Korea, is now a coach and referee and was presented with a letter of appointment by the Penghu County Government. Lin Chieh-hsing stated that Penghu promotes universal sports, with various sports events for everyone. The number of participants in sports, according to the Ministry of Sports' evaluation, ranked second nationwide. This not only demonstrates the fruitful results of Penghu's promotion of universal sports but also aligns with the county government's policy direction of integrating sports with tourism to drive local development.
