His aunt was overcome with emotion upon reuniting with the boy and expressed hope that the boy's missing parents would also be rescued safely. According to the BBC, 2-year-old Kleiber Moran was rescued from the debris by a Jordanian search and rescue team early on June 30 from his home in La Guaira state, northern Venezuela. Venezuela experienced two earthquakes of magnitude 7 or higher in less than a minute on June 24, and the death toll continues to rise. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez stated that Moran's rescue was a "source of hope for the nation." Moran's 23-year-old aunt, Andreina Sarmiento, told the BBC, "I will take care of Kleiber like a mother until my sister is rescued, which is what we all hope for." Sarmiento, holding her nephew's hand at a hospital in the capital, Caracas, sat beside him and said, "I kept praying to God for strength. I've never been a mother, and he is only 2 years old." Before reuniting with her nephew, Sarmiento received a call from a friend in La Guaira informing her of Moran's rescue. Upon hearing the news, she burst into tears on the ground. When Moran saw Sarmiento, he immediately called out "Auntie." Sarmiento said that when she first arrived at the hospital, Moran was "still in shock and screaming," but he later slept through the night and had calmed down by today. "He gave me a kiss today and spoke to me, telling me where he hurt." Sarmiento told the BBC with a smile, "He has no broken bones, everything is fine, just some scratches on his arms and legs, nothing else." Despite the reunion with her nephew, Sarmiento expressed sadness that her sister had not yet been rescued.
