The driver, appearing nervous, accelerated away but lost control on a curve and crashed into a guardrail. Officers approached and discovered the driver, identified as Mr. Chan, was a wanted fugitive and was carrying drugs. He was arrested on the spot. Xu Wen-ming, deputy chief of the Miaoli Precinct of the Miaoli County Police Bureau, stated today that on the afternoon of June 29th, officers from the Longteng Police Station were on patrol near the access road to Daxing Shan Temple in Sanyi Township. They observed a car accelerate away after noticing the patrol car. The officers followed at an appropriate distance, but unexpectedly, the driver, Mr. Chan (52 years old), lost control on a curve and crashed into a roadside guardrail. Officers from the police station immediately approached to investigate. They discovered that Mr. Chan was a fugitive wanted on drug charges by the Taichung District Prosecutors Office and the Miaoli District Court. They also found a small packet of heroin, weighing approximately 0.63 grams, on his person and arrested him as a current offender. Police stated that Mr. Chan was handed over to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office and the Miaoli District Court for his outstanding warrants. He was transferred to the Miaoli District Prosecutors Office for investigation regarding the drug possession offense under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention and Control Act.
