Central News Agency (CNA Taipei, July 1, 2024) Facing the county and city mayor elections at the end of the year, DPP Secretary-General Hsu Kuo-yung was asked today about his assessment of how many seats the party could win. He stated that at this stage, the party will not assess the number of seats to be won. For the 19 counties and cities where candidates have already been nominated, the party will exert its utmost effort to win them back. As for Hualien, Kinmen, and Lienchiang counties, where nominations are still pending, discussions and evaluations are ongoing. The DPP held a press conference today for the "Good Life Taiwan" 2026 Local Election Achievements and Joint Policy Proposals. Regarding the election outlook, Hsu Kuo-yung responded that as secretary-general, he must ensure that every county and city performs its best and that the party strives to win them back with maximum effort. The 19 counties and cities with nominated candidates will receive the party's greatest support. Hsu Kuo-yung said that the party will not estimate how many seats it will win or which county or city is guaranteed to win. At this stage, every county and city is moving forward with strong confidence, aiming to deliver a brilliant performance on November 28. This is the sole responsibility of his position as secretary-general and what he is currently doing. Regarding Hualien County, Kinmen County, and Lienchiang County, where nominations are still pending, Hsu Kuo-yung stated that discussions and evaluations are ongoing for these three counties. Kinmen and Lienchiang are indeed areas where the DPP is relatively weaker, but weakness does not mean there is no hope. Hsu Kuo-yung indicated that the Election Committee adopts a consensus-based decision-making process. If any individual has a differing opinion, communication will continue until consensus is reached. The party is continuously discussing these three counties and hopes to reach a clear decision as soon as possible. (Editor:
