Central News Agency (Central News Agency, reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Changhua, July 1) A boy in Changhua County was hit and killed by an unlicensed driver named Yang while participating in a road race with his family in Erlin Township, Changhua, in 113 (2024). The Changhua District Court sentenced Yang to 2 years and 10 months in prison for negligent homicide. According to the Changhua District Court's judgment, Yang had his driver's license for a private passenger car revoked in May 113 (2024) due to drunk driving. On the morning of November 24 of the same year, at around 7 AM, he was driving northbound on Section 2, Rulin Road, Erlin Township, Changhua County. He drove into a controlled section of the "Boliou Public Welfare Marathon" event, where he struck the boy. The child fell to the ground and was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. According to the judgment, the boy's family stated that they had always hoped their child would grow up to be a contributor to society, but never expected that he would never return home after running a marathon. Their hearts are in pain. The judge considered that Yang admitted to the offense, had 2 prior records of driving a motor vehicle unsafely, and was constantly talking on his phone with the speaker on before the incident, distracting himself with other matters. His driving habits were not good, and his awareness of traffic safety was low. To date, he has not reached a settlement or mediation with the victim's family to obtain their forgiveness. Furthermore, the judge also took into account that the organizer, the Changhua Joyful Children's Polio Care Association, and related personnel failed to fulfill their traffic control responsibilities, and should bear a certain proportion of the negligent liability. Based on these factors, Yang was sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison for driving with a revoked license and committing negligent homicide. The sentence can be appealed.
