Central News Agency (CNA New York, June 29, Combined Reports) The French Consulate General in New York announced today that it will host an elaborate light show at the Statue of Liberty in New York to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. According to AFP, the light show, described as a "grand artistic creation," will be pre-recorded by American Broadcasting Company (ABC) and broadcast at the opening of a 25-hour program airing on July 4th, U.S. Independence Day. The French Consulate General in New York stated, "The Statue of Liberty will be presented in a way the public has never seen before, with a performance designed to highlight its symbolic meaning and emotional power." French Consul General in New York, Cédrik Fouriscot, told AFP, "Our friendship has lasted for 250 years and remains very strong and deep, which is why we wanted to do something meaningful." The Statue of Liberty, standing in New York Harbor, was a gift from France to the United States in 1886 and is one of America's most famous landmarks. France also sent the "Patrouille de France" aerobatic team to the U.S. this month to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence. On June 9th, the team flew eight ALPHA jets over the Statue of Liberty, painting the Manhattan skyline with the "blue, white, and red" colors of the French flag.
