Cheng I-Ching, 34, ranked 22nd in the world, is competing in both singles and doubles at the U.S. Grand Smash. She made her singles debut today, facing the 22-year-old American player Wang Jia-Zhen, ranked outside the top 100. The two had no prior match history.
