Central News Agency (Central News Agency, reporter Guan Ruiping, Miaoli County, June 29) A 44-year-old woman surnamed Hsu in Toufen City, Miaoli County, was stopped by police for speeding and failing to signal while riding her motorcycle home late at night. In addition to a rapid drug test revealing she was driving under the influence, police also seized evidence including methamphetamine and etonitazene vape cartridges. She was sent for prosecution on charges of endangering public safety and drug offenses. To strongly suppress etonitazene-type drugs, the Executive Yuan officially enacted regulations on June 27, elevating etonitazene and its analogues to Class 1 controlled substances, significantly increasing criminal penalties. The Toufen Precinct of the Miaoli County Police Bureau stated today that Precinct Captain Chen Kun-yi and Police Officer Chang Po-en were patrolling Xindong Road in Toufen City around 10 p.m. on June 28 when they observed Hsu riding a scooter at excessive speed and without signaling, prompting them to conduct a traffic stop. Upon being stopped by the officers, Hsu admitted to recent drug use. A rapid saliva test revealed positive results for methamphetamine and etonitazene. Police reported that they seized 1 can of Class 2 controlled substance methamphetamine (gross weight approximately 6.9 grams), 3 etonitazene vape cartridges (approximately 4.93 grams, 5.28 grams, and 5.63 grams), and 1 electronic cigarette device. The case has been transferred to the Miaoli District Prosecutor's Office for investigation on charges of endangering public safety (drug driving) and violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention and Control Act. Additionally, a citation was issued under the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, the vehicle was impounded, and the license plates were suspended. Toufen Precinct Chief Kuo Yi-lung urged the public to be aware that drugs not only harm personal health but can also endanger the lives and property of innocent road users.
