On July 2, 2026 (Thu), a group of children from Highfields State School in Toowoomba, Australia, visited Takatsuki City Gunge Elementary School, with which they have a sister school agreement. The children from both schools deepened their friendship through experiences of Japanese culture, such as origami and chopsticks. The sister school agreement between the two schools was established in October 2023, stemming from the sister city partnership between Takatsuki City and Toowoomba, Australia. This time, as part of a Japan study tour, a delegation of 25 children from Highfields State School visited Gunge Elementary School for school exchange. On this day, after visiting Takatsuki City Hall, the delegation arrived at the elementary school. After being welcomed with a performance of the "Soran Bushi" dance and a surprise rendition of the Highfields State School anthem, they learned about Japanese culture, including how to fold origami cranes and use chopsticks, alongside the 5th and 6th graders. They enjoyed the lessons while experiencing Japanese culture, something they don't usually encounter in their home country. The Gunge Elementary School students who taught the delegation how to fold origami cranes said, "It was difficult to teach the folding method in English, but it was fun to fold the cranes together." The children from the delegation also happily shared their experience of intercultural exchange, saying, "Even after returning to Australia, I'll try folding origami cranes at home again."
