Nishinippon Shimbun Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukuoka City, President: Daisuke Tagawa) and Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President: Mitsuko Torii, hereinafter "JAL") have jointly produced "Yasashii Ryokatsu Note," a travel diary designed to promote brain activation (noukatsu) through travel. It will be released on July 1, 2026 (Wed.) as part of the "JAL Furusato Project" (*1). In recent years, with the extension of average life expectancy, we have entered the "100-year life era." Along with the growing interest in "well-being" to live a long old age healthily and true to oneself, "noukatsu" to prevent cognitive decline is also gaining popularity. This product focuses on the preventive effect of travel on cognitive decline (*2) and is designed so that the process from planning to reminiscing about the trip itself becomes a brain workout, by enabling users to write down plans before the trip, records during the trip, and reflections on episodes after the trip. Furthermore, it is structured to be enjoyable and habitual, including one-point advice and regional columns based on the knowledge of "JAL Furusato Ambassadors" (*3) residing throughout Japan. In addition, during the production process, we conducted interviews with people living with dementia and their caregivers with the cooperation of the Fukuoka City Dementia Friendly Center, and reflected their voices in the product. By aiming for a design that is gentle for people with dementia, we are pursuing a design that is easy for everyone to use. Nishinippon Shimbun has been developing the "Noukatsu Shimbun Project" (*4) since 2021, aiming to achieve well-being for seniors, and has been working on promoting noukatsu and developing health-related products for seniors. JAL aims to realize a "society where travel is not given up" and improve a spiritually rich society and well-being through mobility, through the production of the "Fly Again Project" (*5) and "Beyond Guide" (*6).
