Origin Toshu Co., Ltd., an Aeon Group company headquartered in Chofu, Tokyo and led by President Masayuki Goto, will begin selling “Unaju” eel rice boxes at its bento and deli specialty stores Kitchen Origin and Origin Bento from Friday, May 15, 2026. Origin’s Unaju lets customers choose between two types of eel: fatty eel from China and thick, moist, tender eel from Kagoshima Prefecture. The flavor is enhanced by a separately packed Unaju sauce, made by carefully simmering eel bones to draw out umami and create a rich, refined taste. Because the sauce is served separately, customers can add it to their preferred level and enjoy the natural flavor of the eel. For days when customers want to fully enjoy eel, a two-piece eel version is available. For those who want eel as a side dish, kabayaki grilled eel is also offered. Product lineup: Unaju with Chinese eel: 999 yen before tax, 1,078.92 yen including tax. Unaju with Chinese eel, two pieces: 1,899 yen before tax, 2,050.92 yen including tax. Unaju with Kagoshima eel: 2,299 yen before tax, 2,482.92 yen including tax. Unaju with Kagoshima eel, two pieces: 4,499 yen before tax, 4,858.92 yen including tax. Sales details: Available at all Kitchen Origin and Origin Bento stores from Friday, May 15, 2026. Sales hours follow each store’s business hours. Store information: https://shop.toshu.co.jp/toshu/. Sales will end once stock runs out. About Kitchen Origin and Origin Bento: Origin Bento was launched in 1994 as a new type of bento shop offering self-selected, pay-by-weight deli items. The brand focuses on in-store cooking, preparing meals with care every day. Kitchen Origin opened in Ikebukuro, Tokyo in February 2014. While keeping the same product lineup as Origin Bento, it refreshed its store design with a calm atmosphere that is more approachable for female customers. Some stores include eat-in areas where customers can have a quick meal, making the shops convenient for different lifestyles. Kitchen Origin and Origin B
