A Brand Steeped in Edo Period History Sakado was known in the Edo period as a production area for high-quality rice, and its "mochi rice" was a luxury item so prized it was presented to the Shogun's family. 1 Tribute Rice: Sakado's rice was placed in "black lacquered boxes (Ohako)" to protect it from moisture. 2 Juhachiban Kura (Eighteen Best Warehouses): It is said that this rice was stored in the Shogunate's "Juhachiban Kura."
